Tips for starting food introduction.

It is very difficult task for a Parents to feed the babies when they have just start learning to eat the food. Good nutrition is very important for the toddlers. Every child is different in their own way. If they refuse to eat food or dislike some of the foods don’t worry about it because it often took some time or several attempts.

Food introduction begins after the child is 6 months old. This phase of knowing how to start introducing food can be very stressful for parents and their baby, which is why it is recommended that the meal should be eaten in a quiet environment without distractions. It should also be observed whether the baby is ready to start solid food and some facts to observe are child sitting without supporting the head and torso, showing signs like taking objects in the mouth and showing interest in food when watching other people eating. We must also pay attention to certain precautions that can make this time more appropriate such as talk to the child about what is happening, about the food, such as its texture, colour, shape. do not leave the child unattended during the meal, offer food calmly and patiently, do not force the child to finish the dish, pay attention to signs of hunger and satiety.


The most recommended types of food for food introduction are fruits: Watermelon, mango, orange, papaya, apple and banana.

Vegetables: Cabbage, spinach, kale, broccoli, pumpkin, carrots, yam, potato, sweet potato.


It is also important for parents to analyse their child's signs regarding the method of offering food, whether this will be like mashed purees or in BLW method, which is where the baby takes food cut into strips or pieces with their hands and eats it without parents feeding the baby. BLW (baby led Weaning) way helps improve your baby motor coordination, their connection with foods and get more interaction with their family during the meals time.
